Pro Compression leggings review – with discount code!

I have exciting news – another review! Not sure how many of you are familiar with Pro Compression, but they have gained considerable notoriety for creating a really awesome collection of quality compression products. They are probably best known for their marathon socks and calf sleeves in a wide variety of fun colors and prints. I own a couple of pairs of compression socks from Pro Compression, and I can definitely attest to the quality of their products. They made recovery easy and pain-free!

Some time ago, however, they expanded their repertoire to include leggings. Naturally, I was very curious. This was the first activewear I had seen from Pro Compression. I couldn’t find too much info out there about them, so I decided to contact the company directly. They were extremely cordial, and offered me a pair of discounted leggings in exchange for a review of the product on my blog. Naturally, I agreed!

I didn’t just open these up and put them on immediately to review them. Ok, I did put them on immediately because I was so excited to wear them, but I test drove these babies. Like, really test drove them. I wore them on errands, while circuit training at the gym, while running… I took this review thing very seriously!

The verdict? Dang. Even just putting these on for the first time, I was shocked at how comfortable and how darn flattering they are! They are the perfect legging length, and they come in three varieties with different piping colors along the sides. I chose black, just because I wanted to be safe. The waistband fits beautifully – it stays firmly put while working out, but doesn’t squeeze. In fact, it appears to naturally contain everything, without giving the feeling of being awkwardly encased in spandex. To top it off, they have super cute striped lining in both the waistband and the cuffs of the leggings – cuffs that can be rolled up for extra cuteness!

It’s definitely worth noting, too, that the waistband contains a little elastic pull to keep them in place – not that I had any difficulty whatsoever with this, which is rare for me! There’s also a tiny pocket along the inside of the waistband to hold keys, cash, etc.

It was hard to stop testing out these leggings because, honestly, I never wanted to take them off. They are hands down my new favorite piece of active wear… heck, even just lounge wear! They are the most flattering leggings I have ever owned, and they definitely perform like a Pro Compression product. They wick sweat like nothing else, and they adapted to every exercise I tested them with. No tugging, no fiddling – I would have forgotten I was wearing pants if they weren’t so darn flattering.

Hemp Hearts review

Happy Tuesday!

I hope everyone’s week is off to a good start. I’m OK myself, just chugging along and thrilled to be back in good health.

So, earlier this month, I was given the opportunity to review Manitoba Harvest’s Hemp Hearts through their partnership with Sweat Pink. As promised, Manitoba Harvest sent me some sweet Hemp Hearts to sample all the way from Canada. When this arrived in the mail, I was super excited:

There are TONS of ways that you can use these little guys. But first off, what are they? Well, hemp hearts are what remains after the seeds of the hemp plant have been shelled or de-hulled. They are a treasure trove of healthy fats, proteins, and omegas 3 and 6! A serving of hemp hearts boasts a whopping 10 grams of protein AND 10 grams of omegas 3 and 6 – comparable to the more well-known flax and chia seeds.

Besides the fact that they are nutritionally dense, hemp hearts are also just plain yummy! They have a lovely, subtly nutty flavor that blends well with a wide variety of foods, both sweet and savory. These would definitely be amazing in salads, as well as stir frys. But I must admit that I am so devoted to my new favorite snack of yogurt sprinkled with hemp hearts, that I haven’t been getting as creative as I could! That said, I think they would be amazing with seafood stir fry, in salads, in veggie burgers, and in hot cereals.

Study break! The protein and fat in these hemp hearts add a vital kick to plain old yogurt – which adds interest in terms of taste and texture, as well as a nutritional boost.

Curious? I sampled them, and I still am! There is definitely a lot of hemp heart potential that I haven’t been able to explore thus far.

Updates and Tufts 10k recap

Hi there!

How are all of you? Unfortunately I have not been too well. I had been nursing a sore throat and raspy cough (so delightful!) for weeks, and then this Monday I just wiped out and got really sick. So I was stuck in bed with a fever that would not go away for 2 days straight – the worst! I’m finally recovered, and am eager to get back into my half marathon training, despite the fact that it has been seriously derailed. I wasn’t even able to make the Devil’s Chase this weekend for fear of slipping back into my 102.4 degree fever!

…Which brings us to updates! If you have been following this blog, you’ll know that this Columbus Day was the Tufts Health Plan 10k for Women. It was my second year running this awesome, energetic race with my lovely girlfriend.

Despite the fact that I was not feeling 100%, I enjoyed this race just as much as I did last year. Once again, it was full of awesome vendors and plenty of free samples.Vendors like City Sports and Luna Bar were there, giving out free samples and coupons alike. And as always, the race t-shirts were super cute, and came in a nice City Sports goody bag!

The route was the same as last year’s, which was just fine by me. I LOVE the route – it takes us over the Charles past one of the best views of Boston. On a bathroom break after mile 4, I managed to sneak this awesome shot:

It’s a massive, woman-centered race that is filled with energy and positivity. Rachel and I took it easy, as I was somewhat under the weather and she hadn’t been able to train much, but I actually finished the race feeling better than I had the first time I ran it, despite the fact that I was slower. I can confidently say that I finished strong, and though sometimes my frustration with being a slow runner can get the better of me, I have definitely improved in terms of endurance.

Once again, I will definitely be coming back for the Tufts 10k. This is easily my favorite race thus far, with the exception of my obstacle races! It is well organized and energetic, and runners are provided with more than enough recovery nutrition and water. A delight to participate in!

Awesome article alert: “Sisters of the ‘Yogic’ Yam: bell hooks and the Yoga in Self-Recovery” by Sariane Leigh

I didn’t see this article back when it came out about 2 years ago, but it is definitely still relevant. You all know I love yoga, self-care and self-recovery, and making those things accessible. Well, I am not the one to speak on some of these experiences, but Sariane Leigh, a.k.a. Anacostia Yogi, does so and does so beautifully. I found her article Sisters of the “Yogic” Yam: bell hooks and the Yoga in Self-Recovery (a guest post on The Feminist Wire) while searching for a different article regarding renowned feminist scholar bell hooks, and just had to share. Leigh embodies a fitness and wellness philosophy that I strive for every day – one that is not about punishment or strict competition, but one that is focused on healing, self-love, and nourishment (physical and emotional/spiritual).

As if her beautiful work and impressive bio aren’t enough, Ms. Leigh has also compiled a list of curvy yogis to follow on Instagram! It’s like she knew I needed more curvy fitness on my feed 🙂
