#NoExcuses Challenge

Hi friends!

I’m excited to announce my participation in Fit Approach’s #NoExcuses challenge. What is this about? Basically this is an opportunity to set goals for the new year, and start 2015 off with a commitment to health. This is CLEARLY right up my alley, especially because I love the idea of setting an intention for the year. This came at the perfect time for me to recommit to my blog and my own health!

As part of the challenge, Fit Approach distributed a mad lib for all participants to fill out. I’m posting mine here, as I think doing this little exercise will help motivate and center me. So, here goes…

Hey 2015, it’s me Gabriella [nickname, spirit animal, real name, blog name]. This year I would like to finish my first year of law school with success and happiness, and complete another Tough Mudder and half marathon.

It would also be super duper awesome if I also tried to begin a meditation practice this year. It’s not a resolution, though, just a reminder to myself to try and have the best year yet because there is no reason why I should stop the forward momentum of my life!

The thing I am looking forward to most this year is starting my first legal job this summer – I’m super pumped!

I’ll use the one thing that truly gets me out of bed in the morning which is an insatiable need to snuggle my adorable new cat, Sebastian to help me get up, get my caffeine on and get after my #NoExcuses 2015.

Speaking of excuses (ahem), my very favorite excuse is I’m too busy and I have used it to get out of working out and even spending time with my loved ones on more than 2,015[number] occasions. ;)

I vow to move my body and be more healthy this year even if it means I have to drink less wine. Even if my alarm clock gets eaten by the dog in the middle of the night, I’ll still walk into my early classes with a smile on my face. I will stop blaming my girlfriend [ex: kids, dog, husband] for eating the rest of the cheese when everyone knows it was really me.

My law student struggle [job, hair, car, husband, kids, etc] is not the reason, I make excuses. I will show my law student struggle [same as before] who’s boss this year and get my running, yoga, and weight training [type of sweaty activity] on.

I know that running and yoga are better than indulging self-doubt [noun]. I will reward myself by allowing myself to enjoy the successes, big or small, and accepting compliments.

No Excuses 2015 has just begun and already I am imagining myself a winner.

I can’t wait to rock a new hoodie[article of clothing] from Augusta Active. I can’t wait till my sweaty friends are jealous of how fresh, clean and surprisingly un-smelly [adj] I am between workouts with help from ShowerPill body wipes. I can see myself rocking crow pose (another goal of mine!)[yoga pose / workout move] in new Rock the Course leggings [article of clothing from Actio926] from Actio926 and looking fit and fly while doing it. And of course, I’ll be taking my workouts to the next level and improving my upper body strength [noun] with my new ActivMotion Bar  to help me train for my next half marathon [distance] race with Sasquatch Racing.

Oh, and let’s not forget how amazing my new leggings [article of clothing] will smell in my hot yoga class [favorite type of workout] after washing with some WIN Detergent. And lastly, I’ll keep rocking my 2015 with clean eats and nutrition from Beaming with Health!

That’s all for now! Oh, but as a bonus, I’ll include a picture of my adorable newly adopted buddy, Sebastian le chat. We got him from a local shelter – he’s an 8-year-old lovebug with markings that look like eyebrows. We think he’s quite handsome, non?

New Year, Same Blog

Hello friends, and happy new year!

I know that I have been absent for a very long time. As those of you who follow this blog more closely know, however, it is because I am a law student that my life can get kind of crazy sometimes. So from November to December, I was working tirelessly to prepare for my first final exams as a law student. Pretty stressful time, needless to say! I am excited to start a new semester next week, and to get back to my beloved routine. As in many times of great stress, my self-care really took the back burner during exams and of course the notoriously crazy holidays. Yesterday I finally got back to my happy place, the gym, and feel immediately so much better for it. I am still going to be posting here, don’t you worry, and my commitment to Peace.Sweat.Love is stronger than ever! I want 2015 to be my best, most successful blogging year yet!

In the meantime, check out my introductory post as a new Sweat Pink Ambassador over at Sweat Pink’s site, Fit Approach. It gives some background information on why health and fitness have become so important and empowering to me. Check it out if you get a chance!

Meanwhile, I’ll be prepping for the classes coming up next week and figuring out my schedule. I promise I’ll be back with a post very soon – I have a lot of updates to give!

Peace, sweat and love,

G.

Hemp Hearts review

Happy Tuesday!

I hope everyone’s week is off to a good start. I’m OK myself, just chugging along and thrilled to be back in good health.

So, earlier this month, I was given the opportunity to review Manitoba Harvest’s Hemp Hearts through their partnership with Sweat Pink. As promised, Manitoba Harvest sent me some sweet Hemp Hearts to sample all the way from Canada. When this arrived in the mail, I was super excited:

There are TONS of ways that you can use these little guys. But first off, what are they? Well, hemp hearts are what remains after the seeds of the hemp plant have been shelled or de-hulled. They are a treasure trove of healthy fats, proteins, and omegas 3 and 6! A serving of hemp hearts boasts a whopping 10 grams of protein AND 10 grams of omegas 3 and 6 – comparable to the more well-known flax and chia seeds.

Besides the fact that they are nutritionally dense, hemp hearts are also just plain yummy! They have a lovely, subtly nutty flavor that blends well with a wide variety of foods, both sweet and savory. These would definitely be amazing in salads, as well as stir frys. But I must admit that I am so devoted to my new favorite snack of yogurt sprinkled with hemp hearts, that I haven’t been getting as creative as I could! That said, I think they would be amazing with seafood stir fry, in salads, in veggie burgers, and in hot cereals.

Study break! The protein and fat in these hemp hearts add a vital kick to plain old yogurt – which adds interest in terms of taste and texture, as well as a nutritional boost.

Curious? I sampled them, and I still am! There is definitely a lot of hemp heart potential that I haven’t been able to explore thus far.

Lucky for you (and me) Manitoba Harvest has provided Sweat Pink Ambassadors like myself a coupon code for readers. You can get 20% off at Manitoba Harvest’s site when you use the code “HHSweatPink14” – just in case you needed a little more of a nudge to try out this superfood for yourself 😉

Upcoming races and national running day

Hello lovelies!

Hope everyone had a great day yesterday for National Running Day – and that you got a run in if that’s your thing! What do you run for? 🙂

8020_1402009156.90112

I hadn’t been on a run since not long after my 10k.. yeah. 2+ weeks no running! With the craziness of everything, I haven’t really been working out much at all. This week, the first normal week in a while, I was finally able to get back to a more normal routine and start training again (if you’ll recall,  I’ll be doing a Tough Mudder come August). Yesterday, as it was the first day back in a while, was a short run with a friend. It felt less than great during the process (do first runs back ever feel good?), but post-run I was sweaty and feeling great.

Finally put my Sweat Pink laces on my shoes! Just in time for National Running Day :)

Finally put my Sweat Pink laces on my shoes! Just in time for National Running Day 🙂

I ran again today, this time inside (I don’t like running in the rain!), and got in a solid 3 miles at a good pace. Felt infinitely better than yesterday! After a bunch of strength-training workouts (upper body on Monday and lower body on Tuesday), the motion of the run actually felt like a massage to my sore muscles. That and some quality time with my beloved foam roller has really helped my aching glutes and thighs.

But before Tough Mudder, I am excited to announce that I will be competing in a different race later this month. Through my partnership with Sweat Pink, I have been given the opportunity to run in and review a 5k Foam Fest as part of their “Foam Fanatics” program! The race looks totally awesome, and should just be an all-around fun time. Don’t believe me? Check out their awesome video below:

This should be a ridiculously fun way of prepping for my upcoming TM!

I will be running, climbing, and crawling through their foam-filled obstacle run on June 21st at 10:30 in MA. Come join me! As a Sweat Pink ambassador and a Foam Fanatic, I’ve been given a discount code available to ANYONE. Just enter my unique code “FF3316” at checkout to get $5 off your entry fee to any 5k Foam Fest nearest to you!

And for those of you in areas whose 5k Foam Fest races will be put on later than June 21st, make sure to come back to my blog and read my review of the race 🙂

Peace, sweat and love,

Exciting news!

Hello everyone!

I am currently suffering through my last ever (!!!!) undergrad finals period, so I am low on time and energy. Sorry I haven’t been posting as much! I cannot wait for this semester to be over and senior week to begin once I had in this last paper on Tuesday. Just one more to go – send me positive energy (and inspiration)!

Before it’s been too long, I did want to share an exciting bit of news I got last week. So, I don’t think I mentioned it, but I applied to be a Sweat Pink ambassador (see www.fitapproach.com if you’re interested!). Basically, Fit Approach (and the Sweat Pink ambassadors affiliated with it) is a community for individuals passionate about health, fitness, and balanced lifestyles. I figured that I would apply to be a part of the community on a whim now that I have this blog. And to my surprise… I was accepted!

I am proud to say that I am now a new Sweat Pink ambassador!

(Check out the badge, folks 😉 )

Sweat-Pink-ambassador-badge-SMALL

I may still be waiting for the signature pink shoelaces to come in the mail along with my Sweat Pink top, but I am excited to start posting on the Fit Approach site/checking out forums the minute I am done with finals. I’ve already filled out my profile page because I was just too excited to wait! Really, really happy that I was given the opportunity to join this community. I know that this will totally nourish me over the summer when I am training, working, and waiting to start law school (another major source of anxiety!).

More later, I have to get back to work and bang out this last paper. I ran my 10k today, so I will do a race update and post after Tuesday.

Peace, sweat and love,

G
